Profit on the lot is revenue from the units you expect to sell, minus eBay's fees on each sale, your shipping costs and the lot cost. ROI divides that by what you put in. Units to sell to break even is the number of sales that returns the lot cost; the lower it is relative to the lot size, the safer the buy.

Run the same lot at a lower sell-through and a lower price before you buy. If the ROI only works at 100% sell-through and full price, the lot is a bet, not a purchase. The sell-through calculator helps you estimate that share from sold data.

FAQ

eBay ROI calculator questions

What does ROI mean for an eBay seller?

Return on investment: profit divided by the money you put in. For a sourcing lot that is the lot price plus any other costs of getting it ready to sell. An ROI of 100% means the lot doubled your money.

Why include a sell-through percentage?

Because lots rarely sell out. If you expect to sell 70% of the units at your price and clear or write off the rest, the ROI should reflect that. Set it to 100% only if you are confident every unit will sell at that price.

What is the break-even units figure?

How many units you need to sell at your price, after fees and shipping, to get the lot cost back. Everything sold after that is profit. It is the quickest way to judge how risky a lot is.

Is ROI or margin more important?

Both, for different decisions. Margin tells you how much of each sale you keep. ROI tells you how well the cash you tied up in stock performed. Fast-selling, lower-margin stock often beats slow, high-margin stock on ROI over a year.

Does this include my time?

No. Add a figure for your time to other costs if you want it counted.
