Total marketplace fees is what eBay deducts before the payout: the final value fee on the whole order (item plus shipping charged), the per-order fee, and any Promoted Listings charge. Net profit is what is left after those fees and your own costs. Profit margin divides net profit by the gross order value, which is the figure to compare across products. Return on cost divides net profit by the item cost and tells you how hard your inventory cash is working.

Two things sellers miss. Shipping charged to the buyer is revenue and is fee-bearing, so "free shipping" versus "charged shipping" changes the fee only through the price you set. And a below-standard seller rating adds 6% to every final value fee (7% after four consecutive months) until the next evaluation. Choose it under Seller level to see the cost; our guide on lowering eBay defect rate explains how to get back above it.

FAQ

eBay fee calculator questions

What is eBay's final value fee in 2026?

For most categories on eBay.com the final value fee is 13.6% of the total amount of the sale (item price plus shipping charged plus any sales tax) up to $7,500, then 2.35% on the portion above $7,500, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 for orders of $10 or less and $0.40 for orders over $10. Several categories have different rates; the schedule below lists the common ones and links to eBay's page.

Is the fee charged on shipping too?

Yes. The final value fee applies to the total amount of the sale, which includes the shipping you charge the buyer. That is why charging shipping separately does not reduce fees.

Does a store subscription lower fees?

For some categories, yes: Store subscribers pay lower final value fees in a number of categories. Those store rates are not modelled in this calculator; eBay's selling fees page (linked below) lists them by subscription level, and the free audit covers whether a store pays for itself on your catalogue.

Are Promoted Listings fees included?

Only if you enter an ad rate. A Promoted Listings general-strategy campaign charges the ad rate you set as a percentage of the total sale amount when the item sells within 30 days of a click on the ad. Priority-strategy campaigns charge per click instead and are not modelled here.

Why is my real fee different from the calculator?

Category exceptions, international fees, a Below Standard seller rating (which adds 6% to final value fees, 7% after four consecutive months), and payment disputes all change the total. The calculator uses the published schedule for a normal account in the selected category.

How is net profit calculated here?

Gross order value minus eBay fees, minus your item cost, shipping cost and any other costs you enter. It does not include your time, packaging unless you add it, or taxes on profit.
