eBay UK Fee Calculator

This eBay UK fee calculator shows every fee on an eBay.co.uk sale: the final value fee for your category, the per-order fee, the 0.35% regulatory operating fee, VAT and Promoted Listings, then your profit. Rates are from eBay's business seller fee page, checked on 22 October 2026.

Business seller rates by category. The per-order fee is 30p on orders of £10 or less and 40p above (10p in Home, Furniture & DIY).
Fees apply to postage too
General campaigns charge this % of the total sale when the sale comes from the ad
UK-based private sellers pay no final value or regulatory fee (vehicles excluded)
eBay quotes business fees excluding VAT. Not VAT-registered? The VAT is a cost, so add it. VAT-registered sellers usually reclaim it
Private sellers pay 3% on any delivery outside the UK
10% off the percentage part of the final value fee, not the per-order fee
eBay adds percentage points to the final value fee until the next evaluation

Total marketplace fees is what eBay deducts from the sale: the final value fee for the category on the whole order (item plus postage charged), the per-order fee, the 0.35% regulatory operating fee, any international fee or Promoted Listings charge, and, if you choose it, the 20% VAT on those fees. Net profit is what is left after the fees and your own costs. Profit margin divides net profit by the gross order value, the figure to compare across products, and return on cost divides it by the item cost.

Three things change the answer more than sellers expect. Postage charged to the buyer carries the fee too. A business seller who is not VAT-registered pays VAT on top of every eBay fee. And a VAT-registered seller owes HMRC the VAT included in the price the buyer pays, which this calculator does not deduct, so take it off the net profit (one sixth of a 20% VAT-inclusive price). Private sellers based in the UK pay no final value or regulatory fee, which is why the same sale can leave a business seller with noticeably less.

Worked example

A £40 jacket, three ways

A jacket sells for £40 plus £4 postage in Clothes, Shoes & Accessories (11.9%). It cost £15, postage costs £3.20 and packaging £0.60.

  • Business seller, not VAT-registered: final value fee £5.24, per-order fee £0.40, regulatory operating fee £0.15 and VAT on those fees £1.16, so £6.95 in fees and £18.25 net profit (41.5% margin).
  • Business seller, VAT-registered: £5.79 in fees and £19.41 before the VAT owed on the sale (£44 includes £7.33 of VAT at 20%), so about £12.08 once that is paid.
  • UK-based private seller: no final value, per-order or regulatory fee, so £25.20 net profit.

The rate is the same for every business seller in the category. VAT status, postage and the seller account type decide what is left.

FAQ

eBay UK fee calculator questions

How much does eBay UK charge business sellers?

A final value fee set by category on the total amount of the sale (item price plus postage plus any taxes), a per-order fee of 30p on orders of £10 or less and 40p above, and a regulatory operating fee of 0.35% of the total. Clothes, Shoes & Accessories is 11.9%, Books, Comics & Magazines 9.9% and Crafts 12.9%, for example. eBay quotes these fees excluding VAT.

Do private sellers pay fees on eBay UK?

UK-based private sellers pay no final value fee and no regulatory operating fee, except on vehicles. Listing fees still apply after the 300 free listings a month (35p each), as do optional listing upgrades, Promoted Listings and a 3% international fee when the delivery address is outside the UK.

What is the eBay regulatory operating fee?

A fee of 0.35% of the total amount of the sale, item price, postage and taxes included, charged to business sellers when an item sells. It is separate from the final value fee and appears as its own line in this calculator.

Does eBay charge VAT on its fees?

eBay's business seller fee page quotes every fee excluding VAT. If you are VAT-registered you can usually reclaim that VAT, so choose "Exclude VAT". If you are not, the VAT is a real cost, and "Add 20% VAT" shows it. If you are VAT-registered, also remember that the price the buyer pays includes the VAT you owe HMRC, which this calculator does not deduct.

Is the final value fee charged on postage?

Yes. The fee is a percentage of the total amount of the sale, which includes the postage the buyer pays. The exception eBay lists is trainers sent with Authenticity Guarantee and a free postage label, where no final value fee is charged on postage.

What is the international fee for UK sellers?

For a UK-registered business seller it is a percentage of the total sale when the delivery address is outside the UK: 1.05% for the Eurozone and Northern Europe, 1.8% for the US and Canada, and 2% for all other countries. UK private sellers pay 3% on any delivery outside the UK.

Does Top Rated status lower eBay UK fees?

Top Rated sellers get 10% off the percentage part of the final value fee on Premium Service listings. The per-order fee is not discounted. Choose the Top Rated option to see the saving on a sale.
