Amazon account suspended or deactivated? Get the root cause right first.

Listings are inactive, funds are held, and Amazon wants a Plan of Action. The first submission matters most, and it is only as good as its root cause.

What happened

What deactivation and the Account Health Rating mean

Amazon's Account Health Rating is a 0 to 1,000 score in Seller Central showing whether an account is at risk of deactivation. New sellers start at 200; 200 to 1,000 is healthy. Violations deduct points according to their severity, addressing a violation adds points back, and fulfilled orders over the last 180 days add more. Critical violations take the score straight to 0.

A deactivated account cannot sell, and funds are usually held while Amazon assesses the account. Reactivation normally requires a Plan of Action through Account Health in Seller Central, and in some cases documents such as invoices, identity or authorisation letters.

Why this happens

Amazon account suspended? Why it happens

  1. Performance metrics

Order defect rate, cancellation rate or late dispatch above Amazon's targets.

  2. Intellectual property complaints

Trademark, copyright or patent complaints from rights owners, which can escalate quickly.

  3. Product authenticity or safety

Inauthentic item complaints, or products needing compliance documents that were not supplied.

  4. Restricted products

Listing products that are restricted or need approval.

  5. Verification and related accounts

Identity or business details that could not be verified, or a link to another account Amazon has acted on.

What to review first

Before you write the Plan of Action, review these

  • The deactivation notice: the exact reason, the policy named, and what Amazon asks you to provide
  • Account Health in Seller Central: the violations listed, their dates and the affected ASINs
  • Supplier invoices for the affected products: supplier details, your business as buyer, quantities, dates
  • The orders, complaints or listings that caused the problem, and why they happened
  • What you have already changed, with dates
  • What will stop it recurring: processes, suppliers, checks
Do not submit a generic or copied Plan of Action, do not blame buyers or Amazon, and do not submit the same plan repeatedly. Each weak submission makes the next one harder.

FAQ

Common questions

What is the Account Health Rating?

A score from 0 to 1,000 in Seller Central that shows whether a selling account is at risk of deactivation. New sellers start at 200, and anything from 200 to 1,000 is healthy. Points are deducted for new policy violations and added back when violations are addressed; sellers also gain points for orders fulfilled successfully over the last 180 days.

Can a single violation drop the score to zero?

Yes. Critical violations take the rating straight to 0. Amazon also states it may deactivate an account immediately, whatever the score, if it suspects fraudulent, deceptive, illegal or otherwise harmful activity.

What is a Plan of Action?

The appeal Amazon expects for most deactivations: the root cause of the problem, the immediate actions already taken to fix it, and the preventive measures that stop it happening again. Specific, evidenced and short beats long and apologetic.

How many chances do I get?

Amazon reviews appeals, but a weak Plan of Action followed by several resubmissions makes each later one harder to accept. Get the root cause right before submitting the first.

Should I open another seller account?

No. A second account without Amazon's approval breaks its policies and is usually linked and deactivated too, and it undermines the appeal on the original.
