eBay policy violation warning: find every listing like it

An eBay policy violation warning names one listing and one policy, and it can come with a removal or a temporary selling limit; repeated violations lead to restrictions. The risk is the rest of the catalogue: read the notice, fix the pattern, then respond.

What happened

What a policy notice means

eBay sends a policy notice when a listing or an activity breaks one of its selling policies. Depending on the policy and the account's history it may be a warning, a listing removal, a temporary selling limit or, after repeated violations, a restriction. The notice names the policy and usually the listing.

The notice is about one listing. eBay's systems, and rights owners in the case of VeRO (eBay's Verified Rights Owner programme), look at patterns. The question to answer first is how many other listings share the same problem.

Treat every eBay policy violation as a sample of the catalogue, not a one-off.

Why this happens

The policies sellers break most

  1. Listing practices

Brand names or keywords that do not describe the item, duplicate listings of the same item, and misleading titles.

  2. Wrong category

Listing in a category that does not fit the item to reach more buyers or a cheaper fee.

  3. Prohibited and restricted items

Items eBay bans outright, or restricts to approved sellers or with documentation.

  4. Copied images and descriptions

Content taken from a brand's or another seller's listing without permission.

  5. Off-eBay contact

Offering to complete the sale outside eBay, or sharing contact details to do so.

What to review first

Before you respond, review these

  • The notice in eBay Messages: the policy named, the listing numbers, and whether it is a warning, removal or limit
  • The named policy page itself, read in full
  • Every live listing with the same keyword, brand, image, category or item type
  • Seller Hub removed and hidden listings, and any other notices in the last 90 days
  • Your supplier and listing process: where the violating content came from
Do not relist the removed item unchanged, and do not appeal a removal that was correct. Both count against the account.

How Slayva helps

How Slayva handles a policy violation

We read the notice and the named policy, search the whole catalogue for the same exposure, and fix or end what would draw the same notice before anything is sent to eBay. Where a removal was genuinely mistaken, we prepare the evidence and ask for a review. Where it was right, we rewrite the listing compliantly. Then we add a short check for new stock so the fix survives the next delivery.

  • Notice and policy read in full
  • Catalogue-wide exposure search
  • Compliant rewrites rather than failed appeals
  • Review requests only where the removal was wrong
  • Pre-listing checks for new stock

FAQ

Common questions

Is a policy warning serious?

It is the step before a restriction. A warning on its own does not stop selling, but repeated violations escalate to selling limits, restrictions and suspension, and a history of violations weighs on any later appeal.

Which policies do sellers break most often?

Listing practices (keyword spamming, duplicate listings, misleading titles, wrong category), intellectual property (VeRO), prohibited and restricted items, and images or descriptions copied from elsewhere.

Should I appeal a policy removal?

Only if the removal was a mistake and you can show it. If the listing did break the rule, rewriting it compliantly is faster and does not add a failed appeal to the account's history.

How do I find the policy I broke?

The notice names it. Open the message in eBay Messages, where the full text and any listing numbers appear, and read the named policy page before changing anything.

My listing was removed but I do not know why.

Seller Hub shows removed and hidden listings with a reason. If the reason is unclear, contact eBay through Seller Help with the item number before relisting.
