eBay Seller Level Calculator
This eBay seller level calculator takes your transactions, defects, cases and late shipments and shows where the account stands against eBay’s Below Standard, Above Standard and Top Rated limits, and which number puts it at risk.
How to read the result
Below Standard means the account fails one of eBay's two minimum standards: a transaction defect rate over 2% with defects from more than 4 buyers, or more cases closed without seller resolution than the higher of 2 and 0.3% of transactions. Above Standard means both minimums are met. Top Rated means the account also meets the stricter Top Rated limits and the selling activity minimums, so its eligible listings can earn the Top Rated Plus badge and discount.
The lines with a cross are the ones to work on. A defect cannot be removed by waiting for the next evaluation alone; it leaves the window when the transaction ages out. The fastest gains usually come from appealing defects eBay allows you to appeal, stopping out-of-stock cancellations, and answering buyer messages before they become cases. Our guide to lowering the eBay defect rate covers each of those, and cancelling an order without a defect explains the cancellation side.
The calculator applies the published rules to the numbers you enter. eBay's own figure in Seller Hub is the one that counts, and it can differ if a transaction was excluded, a defect was removed on appeal, or a case is still open.

OpeneBay seller level questions
How does eBay calculate the transaction defect rate?
eBay divides the number of transactions with a defect by your total transactions in the evaluation period. A defect is a cancellation you made because an item was out of stock, or a case closed without seller resolution. Several problems on one transaction count once.
Which evaluation period applies to my account?
If you had more than 400 transactions in the last three months, eBay looks at those three months. If you had fewer, it looks at the last 12 months. Enter the transactions and defects for the window that applies to you; Seller Hub's Service metrics and Seller level pages show both.
Why am I not Below Standard when my defect rate is over 2%?
eBay only applies the 2% transaction defect limit when the defects involve more than 4 different buyers. A small seller with three defects from three buyers can be over 2% and still not Below Standard. Cases closed without seller resolution have their own limit: 2 cases or 0.3% of transactions, whichever is higher.
When does a new seller level take effect?
eBay evaluates seller levels on the 20th of each month. A Below Standard rating applies from that evaluation; a Top Rated upgrade takes effect on the 1st of the following month.
What does Below Standard cost?
On eBay.com, Below Standard sellers pay a higher final value fee, with 6% added to the rate (7% after four consecutive months Below Standard), and can face selling limits and lower search placement. The way back is fewer new defects and cases, because older ones age out of the evaluation window.
Is this the same on eBay.co.uk?
The defect and case limits are the same. Top Rated on eBay.co.uk also needs a business seller account, and the selling activity minimum is £1,000 (€1,500 on eBay.ie) in sales with UK and Irish buyers. Choose the marketplace above and the calculator uses that minimum.
