How to read the eBay break-even calculator result

Break-even item price is the lowest price you can list at without losing money on the sale. Below it, every order costs you. Item price for your target margin is the price that leaves the margin you entered after all fees and costs.

Compare both with the prices of the listings shown alongside yours. If the market price sits below your break-even, the problem is sourcing cost or shipping, not the listing, and no amount of listing work will fix it. Our product research service works that margin back before stock is bought.

FAQ

Break-even calculator questions

What is a break-even price on eBay?

The item price at which a sale neither makes nor loses money: the buyer's payment covers eBay's fees, your item cost, your shipping cost and any other costs, and nothing is left over.

Why is the break-even price higher than cost plus shipping?

Because eBay's fees are a percentage of the price, so every dollar you add to the price also adds to the fee. The calculator solves for the price where that balances, including the $0.30 per-order fee on orders of $10 or less.

How do I use the target margin field?

Enter the profit margin you want, as a percentage of the gross order value, and the calculator shows the item price that delivers it. Leave it at 0 to see only the break-even price.

Does it include Promoted Listings?

If you enter an ad rate, yes. General-strategy ad fees are a percentage of the total sale amount, so they raise the break-even price in the same way the final value fee does.

What if the result says not reachable?

Your percentage fees add up to 100% or more of the price, so no price can cover them. Check the ad rate you entered.
